Rachel is sixteen years old, Jewish, and she is known to be a vegan. She gets to sing most of the songs and solos in glee club. She is completely neurotic and has weird teeth. She was raised by two gay fathers, yet to be named, and met her biological mother, Shelby Corcoran, who was the former coach of Vocal Adrenaline, when she was fifteen, thanks to ex-boyfriend Jesse St. James. Starting the show in her Sophomore year, Rachel attends William McKinley High School. Rachel is unpopular with most of the other students because she comes across as being self-involved and very controlling. She is typically very competitive and often shows "diva" behavior by always wanting to be in the spotlight and be the center of attention due to her dream of becoming a famous actress. However, on rare occasions Rachel has shown that she is slowly becoming more considerate and supportive towards the other members of New Directions.

Quinn is known for her beauty and extreme popularity at McKinley High School. Two years ago, Quinn had a one-night-stand with Puck and became pregnant with his child, though at the time she was dating Puck's friend Finn Hudson. She later gives birth to the baby girl at Regionals, named Beth (by Puck), at the end of season one. She then decides to put Beth up for adoption and Shelby (Rachel's biological mother) adopts Beth.
Quinn is reinstated as head cheerleader because she told Cheerios Coach Sue Sylvester that Santana got a boob job during the summer break. She dates Sam Evans until she cheats on him with Finn. They break up and she later restarts a relationship with Finn. She campaigns for Prom Queen with Finn, but loses when it is turned into a prank to embarrass Kurt. She was devastated when she loses and takes her anger out on Rachel, telling her it's because Finn still has feelings for her.

Tina Cohen-Chang is one of the five original members of the New Directions. She pretended to have a stutter when she was younger to push people away from her due to her extreme shyness. Now, she appears to get along with most of the other members in the Glee Club.
Tina used to date a fellow glee club member Artie Abrams, but she broke up with him after falling in love with Mike Chang at Asian Camp.

Brittany was transformed into a vampire in Lima a few months ago, but had no idea that the transformation had happened.
